Jodi had her ultrasound today, and I thought I would share some pictures...

Of course, I had to have a little fun dressing up the little gender-non-specific kid with some Sparty gear...

Go Green! :)
The other night I was watching hockey on my NHL Center Ice package
(that I'm not sure how I have) and Joshua got kind of excited about
it. So we started talking about hockey and how the game works and
about the equipment. Joshua got pretty into it and said he wanted
to be a goaltender. So I changed the subject ;).
Not really. I told Joshua that he has some skates and we could go
skating sometime if he wanted. He said he'd like that, so last
night after work, I took my skates and his to Perani's to get them
sharpened up, and while I was there I picked up a few things (shin
pads, elbow pads and some gloves -- they're so dang cute!). When
I got home, he tried it all on, and everything seemed to fit, so we
planned on meeting today for a lunch skate up at Yost Ice Arena.
Now, he didn't last very long, but I tried to describe how it works,
and told him to bend his knees and everything and he kind of bumbled
along for a ways, but got frustrated really quickly. So I went
over the bench and grabbed a cone, and had him hold onto it and I
nudged him along. I'm not sure if he liked it much, but he did
it! He got tired and said "I'm done" so I took him off the ice
and he had a snack with Jodi and Caleb while I skated around for a
little while. When I stopped for a breather, he wanted to go back
on the ice! So I went and got the cone and he held on and slid
along some more and Jodi got to see him skate a little bit.
Pretty cool.
We'll see if he is as excited the next time I suggest we go. I
know when it came to riding his bike, he got a little too frustrated at
the beginning, so it took a little while for him to get the hang of
it. With skating I am hoping it can be fun for him...
Our parking lot is completely closed off and there are about 15 Ann
Arbor police cruisers surrounding our south parking lot right
now. Apparently a box of garbage in the parking lot has roused
enough suspicion to bring in the bomb squad. I'm not really sure
why anyone would place a bomb at the far side of the parking lot, not
really close to any building, probably only close enough to the mall
drive to get a car or two (unless it is like 5 pounds of C4 or semtex
or something). Strange. At this point, none of us know if
there was a threat called in, or if building management is just being
overly cautious, but we can't leave in the meantime...
If you check around here somewhat frequently, you may have noticed that
some posts got deleted from last week. This was due to the fact
that I attempted to upgrade to the beta of Community Server 2.0 and it
way didn't work. My backup of the DB was completely wrong so I
had to have my webhost restore a nightly backup from last week.
So, fear not, I still wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving, but my zeal for the latest version deleted the evidence! :)
Well, Joshua had his tooth extracted yesterday, and apparently everything went just fine. He told the doctor and the nurses that they were great and it didn't hurt at all. The tooth itself is WAY longer than I expected, which explains why they needed an oral surgeon to pull it. It was almost 2cm long, which seems huge considering the size (or lack of size) of Joshua. Anyway, this morning he was up and acting normal, and apparently feeling no ill effects, so everything is back to the usual (well, except his smile, but we'll get used to that...)
Well, I spent most of today laying down, as I have managed to get sick with a vicious head-cold. I've been popping sudafed sinus like candy and it is barely making a dent in the pressure. Ack.
Joshua is kind of having a hard time with the whole tooth thing. At first he really didn't want to lose it, but now it is kind of hurting and he just wants it out. Unfortunately, we have to wait until Monday to get to an oral surgeon who will extract it and hopefully make sure the bone is fine. Apparently the impact caused some bone to be disturbed in some way -- I sure hope this doesn't mean he's going to have messed-up teeth (although I guess that's what dental insurance is for).
Tonight Jodi and I layed around and watched Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I thought it was a reasonably well done adaptation, although some of the more bizarre things in the book simply couldn't be captured well in a movie. I thought it was funny and worth the rental anyway...
Now that it is almost 11 PM, of course I feel the best I have all day. I just spent a couple of minutes cleaning up images for the stickerblister.com site, and I threw up a couple of placeholder pages and navigation. I really want to do the site in flash, but I just haven't done much with flash, so I better have a backup for the time being!
Enough rambling, I'm getting a drink of water and going back to bed...
Jodi and I were planning to take the kids to GR this weekend so I could go fishing, but that isn't happening.
Yesterday evening, Joshua fell down and displaced one of his teeth so badly that we have to see an oral surgeon and they are going to remove it. It really looks awful, but he is being a little tough guy, and assures me it will heal.
This morning, instead of getting up and packing, Jodi made an appointment with the dentist for Joshua and I layed in bed moaning in pain from the suddenly horrific sinus problem that has got hold of me. I took some sudafed and I'm able to at least walk around and stuff, but I am not in a happy place right now.
So, fishing will wait another week. Maybe next Friday we'll head that way...
While trying to prepare for a brief training and demo tomorrow, I was
trying to get my machine on all the commercial .NET 2.0 components
(which our newest software version is going to work with). Since
I had various incarnations of VS 2005 Beta 2, RC, and RTM installed,
and had some other bits installed by other processes, my machine was in
rough shape.
After struggling with a few different attempts, still resulting in failure, I found
this post
which really helped. Unfortunately, I still couldn't install the
commercial 2.0 Framework because I was running into an issue with the
.NET Framework Runtime Optimization Service still being registered. A
little more hacking of my registry and a reboot, and I was finally able
to get 2.0.50727.42 installed. Now, I just have to get all of our
software installed and make the demos and slides! (which I was going to
work on all afternoon -- whoops).
Anyway, if you are having trouble with getting all of the 2.0 Beta 2 or
RC stuff uninstalled, the blog where that post is has lots of other
posts with nuggets of good stuff, too. I wish I would have read
it 7 hours ago...
One of the
technical blogs I read is by a guy who has done some work to
make .Text and Community Server easier to use. He hadn't been
posting much lately, then today he posted a link to
why. Pretty
amazing story.
Well, I got considerably more sleep last night, but I am still pretty whooped from the last couple of days. I am working from home this morning since I am moving slow and I have only made it into the spare bedroom to check emails and whatnot. I guess this is one of the perks of having occasional days in the calendar with no meetings -- I can actually work from home for a few hours!
We're in the midst of some pretty funky November weather. Last night, there were pretty violent thunderstorms and even a tornado warning for a while. Then it was warm and got really windy, and today the temperature is supposed to drop to the point where they're talking about snow the rest of the week. Hrm. Not so good for the hunters, and probably not a good sign for the fishermen either (which I was hoping to be come Saturday morning!).
The bad news: I got about 3 hours of sleep last night.
The good news: I still made it in for my videoconference this morning.
Well, although I have nothing to say, I thought it was of note that I
am still awake at nearly 3 AM, and I will be on a video conference at
8. This blows. I am watching bad movies on TV, wishing I
were asleep and mostly just continuing to stress out about any
available thing to stress about. I am pretty sure this isn't the
way my brain should work, but unfortunately it is. I am hoping
the kids don't wake up in the next 15 minutes so I can hopefully maybe
get upstairs and go to sleep, but I feel awfully awake.
Wah. I wish I could sleep.
Yesterday, we went shopping for a new refridgerator. Jodi wants one that has the little water and ice dispenser in the door. I don't. For two reasons: 1. It is an option mostly on more expesive refridgerators ($$), 2. I have to run a cold water line to another spot in the kitchen and that equals me crawling around in the dirt in the crawlspace sweating water lines (grrrr).
In the end, we'll probably get a smallish (18-20cf) top-mount fridge with the dispenser crap. I'm not sure I think it is all worth the money, but then hey -- I'm a tight-wad.
On other fronts, I can't seem to get past the 230 barrier on the whole weight-loss front. Tonight I need to try to go running to get back into the habit of that, as I have been pretty on-again/off-again with the running.
Finally, if this week shapes up to be sane (or even maybe if it doesn't) I want to go fishing. I need to look over the schedule for the next two weeks, then give my parents a call...
After a nice long night of sleep, I woke up this morning refreshed, but very groggy. Now that I am awake and trying to figure out what to do today (now that've wasted a couple of hours of it already), I find that I mostly don't want to do anything
Yesterday when I was at work, I got a nice surprise in that my manager had left a gift card for me because of all the travel I had been doing (which in theory is done for a while), so it is tempting to go shopping, but for what? Our water heater (well, one of them -- stupid duplex house) and our refridgerator need to be replaced, but that's not much fun. I need a chest freezer for my beer cooler, but I'm not sure I want to go out and buy a brand new one. Of course, the most likely use? mud, paint, trim, and flooring for the front (well, at least part of what I'll spend on that stuff, anyway). I'm still not sure I want to do that stuff today.
I should probably also clean the leaves out of the yard, but given the stiff breezes, that will be an exercise in futility...
Maybe I'll go for a run, watch the Spartans on TV, and grill up a yummy dinner. That's not very ambitious, but I can be successful pulling that one off!
I want to learn how to use Macromedia Flash to implement a website so
that I can whip up a cool site for stickerblister.com (which has been
parked for about 3 months now). Anyone have any good suggestions
on where to start? I'm thinking self-learning here, not taking
classes (although that is an option).
