Well, my time off has quickly gone by. Between the hunting trip, a drive to see Dad, and sick kids (and Mommy), we didn't have much time to really relax, although I did get a bit of reading in, which does count as relaxation.
I went to see Dad on Friday, Joshua tagged along (at his request). Dad is doing great, at least in my not terribly professional opinion. He is starting to walk with a four-pronged cane, and his ability to move his left leg is improving a lot, although he still is having problems with his arm. He is getting the ability move his fingers, but it requires a lot of effort. Regardless, he was in good spirits and seemed happy to see us, and talked fairly freely about almost anything I mentioned. It was pretty fun to see him, and it is good to see his personality peeking out more and more.
Yesterday, Joshua and I ventured to Home Depot/Lowes and picked up materials to replace the front entry door to the house (finally). It took a couple hours, but we finally have an entry that our keys work in that also happens to open and close fully (how novel). It was never a big deal since I am still working on that part of the house, but I am hoping to get more progress done soon, and the energy waste from the old door was getting ridiculous. So we have a new, safe, secure front door. yay...
Emma was really cranky and wouldn't sleep last night, resulting in me getting little sleep and Jodi getting less than that. She was running a low-grade fever this morning, so we made an appointment for her (and Caleb, who is also sick) with the pediatrician. Well, it turns out that they both have sinus infections, and little Emma has an ear infection, and managed to rupture her eardrum (ouch!). Poor little trooper was just trying to tell us, but we weren't exactly reading her. Oddly enough, when I described the symptoms to the nurse at the doctor office, her reaction was the same as ours -- give her fluids, she'll get better. It is probably a good thing we went in anyway, in hindsight...
Got back yesterday from several days at the Sand Ridge Gang Deer Camp with Matt. I missed on a long shot at a small 5-point buck on Thursday morning, and never saw antlers again. We saw a lot of does and had a good time hanging out. Saturday we ventured to Drummond Island to visit a friend's deer camp to watch the UofM vs tOSU football game, as the camp we were at had no electricity, running water, or other amenities. Unfortunately, the time went very quickly, and now I am back home with no venison to show for it. boohoo.
I am taking the next week and a half off to get a little refresher. I am hoping to get a little deer hunting in, and hopefully get to see my Dad a bit. It sounds like he is going to be moving back to the house, as the insurance company has decided to stop covering the therapy he has been receiving. Of course, this will be a bit of a change for my Mom (and all of us) as he will require basically non-stop care. Obviously, since I am not living near home, I won't be able to contribute quite as much as the others, but I hope to still be a part of everything. I guess he had a home visit today, and the house only needs a couple of upgrades to make it accessible for him. Keep us in your prayers, we need it.
Jodi and I checked out Amos Lee at the Ark on Monday evening. It was a very good show, with great opening acts and a cool venue. I had a big post typed up yesterday, but in my cold-medicine-induced haze I somehow managed to lose it. I'll add links and details to this post later (perhaps when the cold medicine I just took kicks in so I can think straight without my sinuses feeling like they're going to violently explode).
I posted more information here: http://chrisoverbeek.com/forums/2435/ShowThread.aspx#2435
There is a nifty site that I found referenced on another Blog: HowManyOfMe.com
According to that site, there is only one other Christopher Overbeek in the USA, besides me. There are also one Chris Overbeek and one Christina Overbeek. So, really at most, in the USA, there are three people wishing they had grabbed up this domain before me. They probably don't really wish that though, since it's not a terribly clever domain name.
While looking at the site, I tried some family members: my brother and father share the name, and there are 3 others with that name. My Mom and sister have the dubious distinction of being the only people in the country with their birth names (my Mom's married name is still the only one, my sister became one of 14 when she got married). For my kids, no one in the country has my younger kids names (which must mean the data is at least 2.5 years old -- it is probably older than that), and there is exactly one instance of my oldest -- I wonder if it is my son or another one somewhere.
EDIT: I checked the FAQ on the site and the data is from 1990, and their numbers are approximations, not actual figures based on the census responses. So all the data says is that based on probability the numbers presented should be in the realm of reality, but they are far from fact. So, it just looks like we pick wierd first names given our last name...
