This is really mean, and I am probably going straight to hades for putting it on the web for all to see, but it is funny enough (and I'm mean-spirited enough) that I am going to do it anyway.
We are sitting in a knowledge-sharing session concerning Java (another dev group in the company is further along in moving from Microsoft & .NET to multiplatform and Java than we are and are helping us spin up), and a dev asked a question about using C++ with JDBC.
That in itself isn't funny, it's a reasonable question. The funny part is he referred to C++ not as "c-plus-plus" but as "c-double-plus."
In 20+ years of coding, that's the first time I've heard that one (and I've heard some doozies).
If you're not chuckling, either I was wrong to laugh, or you're not a geek -- either way, I thought it was pretty funny...
After a nice extended break to visit family and celebrate the holidays, we're back. We did our usual whirlwind tour of the state of Michigan -- as usual, it seems like the time went too fast. The kids seemed to all really enjoy the whole season and for the first time in a few years had plenty of snow for Christmas at every stop.
I got a little time to decompress and enjoyed seeing everyone. For New Year's Eve, I made a little special dinner with an Asparagus Brie soup with added lobster. Then I made sesame-encrusted yellowfin tuna with a soy-ginger sauce and a wasabi sauce. That turned out really well.
Yesterday, we finally returned home (I-94 was HORRIBLE) and collapsed (okay, I collapsed -- everyone else seemed to just keep moving about).
